The Spindle and Lemonia

Taking as our starting point the Museum of “Adrachti” (Spindle) Folk Local Association, we are being introduced to the history and traditions of the Arvanites community of Eleusis, meet some of the famous Eleusinians Arvanites and taste wonderful traditional delicacies (tzolia and tyropitaria). Following, we move to the Museum’s backyard, where Lemonia, a human size puppet is expecting us. The performance “Lemonia” is based on a woman’s story, who began to make bread and ended up using the already dough to create a world that she desires to share. Through this process she laughs, gets angry, plays but also she dreams. It is a play performed by a doll in natural size that combines harmonically the traditional puppet theater with the art of mimicry. The performance was born in 2009 and since then Lemonia has visited many festivals, squares, theaters, schools, etc. It has also represented Greece in the Global Puppet Festival where it was awarded with two prizes.
