The pulse of a city beats in its human stories. But what happens when narratives of another era, records and documentation are carefully hidden in an archive or a private collection? How can these cultural treasures perform the public role for which they are intended? Museums, on the other hand, much more than exhibition spaces, can convey the meaning of a collection and act as networks of memory and art, living centres of encounter between past and present, of synthesis of ideas. We discuss curatorial practices and examples of small collections and archives that have managed to present to the public the deeper message they have been preserving for years in their boxes, creating organic relationships with the audience.
